Canada’s clean fuel rules face changes as 45Z shifts the market
Canada is preparing targeted amendments to its Clean Fuel Regulations (CFR) as US incentives give American clean fuel producers a competitive advantage. CFR credit prices fell sharply in early September, dropping from around CAD 420 per tonne to about CAD 325 before recovering, as market participants waited for details of the proposed changes. Canada is considering either a minimum domestic content requirement or a credit multiplier for Canadian low-carbon fuels. The proposed changes are aimed at narrowing the gap created by the US Section 45Z Clean Fuel Production Credit, which can apply to fuel made in the US using Canadian feedstock.
HR software can create an ADA compliance problem
Employers can face Americans with Disabilities Act liability when HR software prevents employees with disabilities from accessing benefits, leave systems, training, or other workplace services. The risk can arise even when the software is supplied and operated by a third-party vendor. This makes accessibility a procurement and compliance issue, rather than something HR teams can leave entirely to their technology providers. Employers should assess accessibility before adopting HR platforms and establish ways for employees to obtain reasonable accommodations when software creates barriers.
Workplace safety market points to growing compliance demand
The workplace safety market is projected to grow from $18.62 billion in 2025 to nearly $41.65 billion by 2033, according to DataM Intelligence. The growth reflects increased attention to worker protection, safety regulations, risk management, and technologies that help organizations monitor workplace conditions. For compliance teams, the expanding market also signals greater use of software and connected tools to document safety activity and support regulatory obligations.

🧠Expert Take
“From a bigger picture standpoint, you want to leverage your custodians, your custodial relationship. They all have tools that they provide and can help from a compliance perspective, whether those are exception reports, trade reports—and don't forget you also most of them have discounts for other vendors—so whether it's proxy services or really a whole host of items, you want to become familiar with that, you want to stay on top of the reporting capabilities, and...you also have the NSCP. So you really want to look at joining compliance roundtables or other peer networks—that really helps from a practical standpoint.” – Bart McDonald
